After reading “Pterror Over Paris,” I was mainly just
confused. I think I’m missing something, or I don’t understand what’s really
going on. HOWEVER, my point here is that I was amazed by how detailed and
realistic these illustrations are. I love Jacque Tardi’s use of rich, solid
colors throughout the comic, like when he colors the sky navy (page 33), dark
purple (page 11), periwinkle (page 18), and even magenta (page 38). The solid
colors make a statement by allowing you to focus more on the characters and setting
within each panel. The attention to detail in the buildings is also very well
done. I wonder if Tardi sat down in front of real buildings and objects, in
order to sketch in every little line and crevice. I especially like the first
panel on page 19, in which we see a massive ship and still buildings and
background details that probably took a lot of effort to put in. The third
panel on page 28 gives a nice perspective of the street, with people ascending
from the underground and the rain cutting diagonally across the panel. Even the
cars on page 41 look great. If only I could draw like that...
