From most of the stories in Good-Bye, it looks like much of the people in Japan sought some type of pleasure as a way to ease the pain and overcome their depression. But it looks like it really didnt do much to comfort them from the effects they felt from the war, because each character seemed to be more depressed by the end of the story. This leads me to ask if the Japanese people fully recovered from the devastation of World War II, or is it something that might have ceased with that generation or passed on perhaps? I mean I know their economy was able to make a quick recovery after the war but what of the sentiment of the people? I can understand how this may have left a mark on the people but I could not really find information on this.
