I find it interesting how Clark Kent and Tintin both work
for a newspaper company, solve crimes and save the day. The only difference is that
Clark Kent lives another life unlike Tintin. Clark Kent is the alter ego of Superman;
he is only his true self when he is Superman. Clark Kent is shyer, quiet, more
of act unlike Tintin who’s simply himself. He doesn’t hide and is not afraid of
people knowing about his identity, while Superman is. Superman is also not
interested in anyone but helping those in need regardless if he’s breaking the
law and being extremely aggressive and violent. While, Tintin does not break the
law as much as Superman; there’s also much more interactions between Tintin and
bad guys while in the Superman comics there are little to no words exchanged
between Superman and the bad guys. Superman also is always saving Lois who unintentionally puts herself in danger while
Tintin is always trying to save himself because he puts himself in danger. Yet, they both have a repetitive story line, saving someone and getting the bad guys.
Peter Parker is a near perfect middle-ground between the two. He works for the newspaper, but his job is only taking those sweet and mysterious snapshots of Spiderman so the two identities really fuse into one.

ReplyDeleteYour point about Kent and Tintin both working for a newspaper company is very interesting. I think there might be different reasons for having the protagonists work as reporters. First, the characteristics of their jobs might be used at ease for the author to set up the plots, as the reporters can investigate the issues/problems easily. Also, by making them the reporters, the author might try to make the readers sympathize with the protagonists through the image of good people correcting the injustice in the world.
