Crime Code of Authority

After reading Crime SuspenStories and reviewing the Comics Code Authority the "violations" are reality. The rules that publishers must follow prevent the reader from living in a real world, but more in a utopia, an idealized society. For example, in Murder May Boomerang one of violations is General Standards Part A # 1, "Crimes shall never be presented in such a way as to create sympathy for the criminal, to promote distrust of the forces of law and justice, or to inspire others with a desire to imitate criminals." While the prisoners who escaped the prison represent the distrust in the force of law and justice, it symbolizes that the prison system isn't as secure as they seem. We are human and we have flaws, thus there are flaws in creating/ building things. The story itself demonstrates the reality that there are criminals out there and we must be aware that they are apart of our society. Although, Murder May Boomerang violates certain rules it does follow General Standard Part C, Marriage and Sex # 4, "The treatment of love-romance stories shall emphasize the value of the home and the sanctity of marriage." While the father and son are not married they do demonstrate the love they have between one of other and emphasize on their family values and security. In Death's Double- Cross the violations come within Ruth's physical appearance and values. Ruth's appearance in the cover page and her leg placement on p. 20 while she is cry is seductive. She's revealing skin and violating General Standards Part 1, Costume # 2, "Suggestive and salacious illustration or suggestive posture is unacceptable." While her stance is seductive, many female characters in the comic book industry appeared that way, as see in Superman with Lois Lane. Ruth's values and desire for another man violates society's stereotype of and ideal woman. While she respects the idea that divorce is not a joke she's okay with the fact that she's in love with another man. During the release of these comics, the appearance of woman in society was changing as well as their values. Woman began to become more independent. The Crime Code of Authority attempts to put a restriction on how society was evolving but did not succeed because every generation is different.
