Heroes and Villains

Where the superheroes comics that we have read previously battled with injustice in society to make the world a better place, the X-Men battle with super villains to save the world. In creating adversaries that rival the heroes, victory is far from assured. This is a major divergence from previous readings such as Superman where Superman is going up against typical, everyday bad guys. By introducing villains such as Magneto and Lucifer, the X-Men accomplish their missions with real opposition, making them feel more believable. In addition, this strong opposition from antagonists forces the X-Men to work as a team, creating a different style of narrative. This allows for the addition of new characters and an expansion of the universe, something that aids in developing new stories. In this sense, the possibilities for what can be written about the X-Men are endless.
